A History of Stanmore
The suburb of Stanmore lies within the Marrickville local government area four kilometres south west of the centre of Sydney. The traditional owners of the land were the Cadigal people of the Eora nation.
Stanmore developed on both sides of the ridge line of Stanmore Road. This road is believed to follow the line of an ancient Aboriginal walking track. The ridge line contains a number of crests, which provide panoramic views to Botany Bay and the Blue Mountains.
